Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are the fees for your classes? What payment methods do you accept?

A. There is a per class fee, which will vary slightly based on the number of students being trained at once. Please contact us directly for rates and availability. We accept cash, cheque, credit card, or e-mail money transfer.

Q. What are the types of classes you have available? What days and times of the week are you open?

A. Our main classes are our taekwondo & martial arts programs, kickboxing and muay thai, traditional boxing, weapons training, and women’s self-defence.  We are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm.

Q. What should I wear to class? Do you provide uniforms and/or equipment?

A. When first starting classes, we recommend wearing simple workout gear like a t-shirt and jogging pants or other casual fitness apparel. Once you decide if you’d like to commit longer term to our training programs club t-shirts are available or full uniforms. These can be purchased directly from our location.

Q. How does testing for belts or promotions work and do tests take place at your facility?

A. Students have the option to train for belts, or simply for fun, fitness, and to learn practical self-defence. Our belt ranking system applies to our taekwondo and martial arts program, where students will be evaluated and tested as their skill levels progress. All tests are done at our location, with the exception of black belt tests, which may take place in another facility.

Q. What level of contact or physicality do you allow in classes?

A. The level of contact will vary based on the preference of each student, along with their age and skill level. Light to no content is recommended for beginning students, where we slowly increase the intensity over time. This is a decision typically made by both student and teacher, along with the parents of any student under the age of 18.

Q. Do you teach classes outside of your home location? Where are you able to travel to?

A. There is a per class fee which will vary slightly based on the number of students being taught at once (up to 4) along with the ages. There is a discount however for paying a monthly fee in advance (4 classes) available to all students. Please contact us for rates and availability.

Q. If I have a belt or ranking in a previous martial art does it carry over to your program?

A. If you have held a belt in a martial art previously, it is possible that it can carry over into our program. Or faster progression may be permitted compared to students with no experience. Students will be evaluated first based and a suitable ranking will be decided upon afterwards.

Q. Do you work with other martial arts instructors or black belts?

A. Yes we have worked with other martial arts instructors in the past at a black belt level. This may be to hone their existing skills or to help them get back into martial arts after a longer layoff. Black belts may also be looking to learn new abilities beyond the training they have received at other clubs.

Q. How long on average does it take to achieve your black belt in martial arts?

A. How long it takes to receive your black belt can vary greatly and depends on a variety of factors. How often to attend class, how frequently you practice, how fast your skills progress, and if you follow the proper rules and etiquette of our club. On average it can take students around 5 years to earn their black belt, but you control your own destiny much more with private lessons.

Q. Do you train students for tournaments or competition?

A. Yes we have trained students for taekwondo competitions, general martial arts competitions, boxing competitions, and kickboxing competitions. If you are looking to compete in tournaments, we can certainly assist you as required.
